VOLUTE -

A horizontal rail fitting that spirals out from a newel post and connects with an upeasing to the rake rail. This application is incorporated with four to six balusters surrounding the newel post and the entire structure is sometimes referred to as a “bird cage”. While an aesthetic application, a volute assembly is usually installed on a bull-nose starting step but can be installed directly on the floor. It can be incorporated in a PTP or OTP handrail system.
