ASCENDING VOLUTE -

the same as a standard volute with the exception that it eliminates the upeasing and begins its upward direction at the newel giving the appearance of a spiral. This can result in lowering the newel post and volute by as much as four inches over a standard newel and volute. The cost may be prohibitive when choosing an ascending volute but the aesthetic value may outweigh that concern.
